What we build in Highlands Ranch

One crew for the whole backyard.

Most Highlands Ranch homes need more than one thing — a deck and a fence, a patio cover and new siding. We do all of it, so you're not chasing five different contractors (or filling out five HRCA forms).

Built for Highlands Ranch

The clay, the wind, the hail — and the HRCA. We handle all of it.

Highlands Ranch is hard on a backyard: clay that lifts things, strong wind off the foothills, and some of the worst hail in the country. And almost nothing gets built until the HRCA says yes. We build for the weather and take the paperwork off your plate.

Clay that lifts things

The clay under Highlands Ranch swells up when it gets wet — enough to push a deck or fence post out of the ground. We dig the posts down deep to solid ground so a wet spring can't lift them.

Wind and heavy snow

The wind really moves off the foothills out here, and the snow piles up wet and heavy. We set posts deep and build frames, covers, and fences that don't lean or blow down.

Right in Hail Alley

Highlands Ranch gets some of the worst hail anywhere on the Front Range. We use tougher boards and siding and build covered decks for folks tired of fixing the damage.

HRCA approval & permits

The HRCA checks your plans, materials, and colors before you build. We fill out the ARC form for you — plus the extra BackCountry form if you're behind the gate — and pull your Douglas County permit.

What we see in Highlands Ranch yards

The Highlands Ranch calls all start to rhyme.

After a few hundred Front Range builds, the requests from this town are predictable in the best way. Odds are yours is on this list — and we've already solved it.

Decks for walkout lots

A lot of Southridge homes — Firelight, The Hearth, and the streets backing the Backcountry Wilderness — sit a full story above the yard with a big view out back. We build decks that step down to the yard and keep that view open.

Fences the HRCA will approve

Highlands Ranch has rules: fences are cedar, 5 or 6 feet, stained the exact color "Highlands Ranch Fence Brown" — or Trex "Saddle" if you want composite (no vinyl). We build to the rule, so the ARC says yes the first time.

Saving the mountain view

On the lots looking out at Pikes Peak and Longs Peak, we use thin cable or metal railing so the railing almost disappears — and the view doesn't.

Covers for hail and sun

If you've patched a deck or a roof after a storm, you're not alone. We build covered decks and pergolas so you get shade in the summer and a roof over your head when the hail comes.

Behind the BackCountry gate

BackCountry has its own design review on top of the HRCA — a separate form, looked at every two weeks. We've done it before and handle both, so your project doesn't stall.

The whole backyard at once

A lot of folks here want a deck, a fence, and maybe new siding all together. One crew, one schedule, one bill — and it all matches when we're done.

Highlands Ranch questions

What homeowners ask us.

Do I need HRCA approval for a deck or fence?
Almost always, yes. The HRCA Architectural Review Committee checks your plans, materials, and colors before you build (you can reach them at 303-471-8821). We fill out the ARC form for you. If you live behind the BackCountry gate, there's a second review there too — and we handle that one as well.
What are the fence rules in Highlands Ranch?
The HRCA wants fences made of rough-sawn cedar, 5 or 6 feet tall, stained the exact color "Highlands Ranch Fence Brown" — or Trex "Saddle" if you want composite. Vinyl isn't allowed. We build to the rule so the ARC says yes the first time.
Who issues the building permit?
Highlands Ranch is part of unincorporated Douglas County, so the permit comes from the county (303-660-7497), not a city. We pull it for you. Most decks need a permit; standard 5–6 foot fences usually don't — but they still need HRCA approval.
How do you handle the clay and weather?
The clay here swells up when it gets wet and can push a post out of the ground, so we dig the posts down deep to solid ground. For the strong wind, heavy snow, and hail, we build sturdy frames and use tougher boards that won't fade or crack.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes — we're licensed, insured, and BBB Accredited. License details come with your written estimate.
How fast can you start?
It depends on the season, the permit, and the HRCA review, but you get a real schedule up front and a crew that shows up when we said. That on-time part is behind a lot of our reviews.
